Overview

Welcome to RCS Online Academy! We serve the students of Rutherford County Schools in a variety of ways.

RCS Online Academy currently offers twenty-five courses to students who are enrolled full-time in a traditional RCS high school at a cost of $150 per ½ credit. Students take online classes to graduate early, catch up on credits, or make room in their schedules for advanced/elective courses. The online courses are in these areas: math, science, social studies, English, world language, and fine arts. Students can complete a semester-length course in a quarter. Students may take one online course per quarter. All online classes are taught by teachers who also work in a traditional RCS school.

Additionally, students can take any of the twenty-five courses offered during online summer school at the same rate ($150 per ½ credit). There are two summer terms. Students may take up to two online ½ credit classes per summer term.

We are implementing a pilot program for the 2018-19 school year at Blackman High School to incorporate two online classes into their master schedule: economics and personal finance. A BHS teacher will instruct the classes and have a designated period during the day to manage the courses. BHS students can take these classes free of charge. These semester-length classes have standard, semester-length pacing. If this program is successful, we would like to expand it to other, interested high schools.
