At Rutherford County Virtual School, students are not limited by the walls of a traditional classroom. Through partnerships with local colleges and career training institutions, RCVS students have access to advanced learning opportunities that allow them to earn college credit, industry certifications, and even college degrees while still in high school.
RCVS proudly partners with Middle Tennessee State University (MTSU), Motlow State Community College, and the Tennessee College of Applied Technology (TCAT) to provide students with a variety of options that align with their future goals. Whether a student is planning to attend a four-year university, pursue a technical career, or enter the workforce after graduation, there is a pathway available to help them get a head start.
Many of these courses can be completed online, while others allow students to attend classes on college campuses and experience life as a college student before graduating from high school. This flexibility is one of the many benefits of being an RCVS student.
One of the most exciting opportunities available to Tennessee students is the state's Dual Enrollment Grant. This grant covers the cost of several college courses, allowing students to earn college credit at little to no cost to their families. After the grant-funded courses have been utilized, additional classes are often available at a significantly reduced tuition rate, making college coursework more affordable than ever.
The results speak for themselves. This year, several RCVS graduates earned their Associate Degree before receiving their high school diploma, saving both time and money as they continue their educational journeys. Many other students graduated with substantial college credit already completed, giving them a significant advantage as they enter higher education.
In addition to academic coursework, students can also explore career-focused opportunities through TCAT programs, allowing them to gain valuable skills and industry credentials in high-demand fields.
"We want families to know that virtual school does not mean fewer opportunities," said Dr. Jessica Supakhan, Principal of Rutherford County Virtual School. "In many cases, our students are able to take advantage of opportunities that accelerate their learning, reduce future college costs, and help them discover career pathways earlier than their peers."
As RCVS continues to expand opportunities for students in grades 4-12, the school remains committed to providing flexible, high-quality educational experiences that prepare students for success beyond high school.
Families interested in learning more about Dual Enrollment, Associate Degree pathways, TCAT programs, or other advanced learning opportunities are encouraged to contact Rutherford County Virtual School. The future can start before high school graduation, and RCVS is helping students get there.
